A little over a year ago I had to have my 18 year old, diabetic, cat put down and a couple days later I got a sympathy card and a poem from my vet's office. I've decided to post the poem because I found out last night that ficlover's cat Tamara passed away on April 1st. I would have posted it directly to her comments section but it's a little long so I figured this would probably be better.
Anyway this is for her and anyone else who has ever lost a cherished pet.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor: just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing, they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one stops and suddenly looks into the distance. His/her bright eyes are intent, his/her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he/she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his/her legs carrying him/her faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from you heart.
Then together, you and your special pet cross the Rainbow Bridge.
Well that's it, I know it doesn't make everything better but I do know it made me smile a little when I received it and that's all I'm hoping for for you.
Yeah okay I'm a big sap just don't let anyone else know. ;D
